Product Performance and Australian Compliance

Teak & Rope supplies products and available technical documents. A product does not become suitable or compliant for every project simply because it is sold in Australia, carries a manufacturer claim or has been independently tested.

The project designer, builder, installer, certifier and relevant approval authority must determine the requirements for the actual building, class, location and use, and confirm that the exact product and installed system meet them.

The NCC requires evidence appropriate to the product and its intended use. Evidence may depend on the exact model, composition, dimensions, tested assembly, substrate, supports, fasteners, joints and installation method.

Overseas reports, manufacturer declarations and independent tests may provide useful product information but are not described by Teak & Rope as Australian NCC certification unless an appropriate Australian compliance pathway has been established. Changing a tested configuration may change the result.

Request the current document set before specifying or ordering. Project professionals must decide whether it is acceptable evidence for the project.

Teak & Rope does not use “fireproof” as a general compliance statement. Where a manufacturer reports fire performance, the precise test method, classification, product and tested configuration must be reviewed.

A fire test result does not automatically establish non-combustibility, a wall or ceiling group number, façade compliance, fire resistance, or suitability for a bushfire attack level. Products used where fire or bushfire performance is regulated require project-specific assessment and approval before purchase and installation.

A board or sheet may be described by its manufacturer as waterproof, water-resistant or non-absorbent. That describes the material, not the completed building assembly.

Compliance of a wet area, façade, balcony, deck, window, roof interface or external wall also depends on substrates, joints, penetrations, membranes, flashings, drainage, falls, ventilation, sealants, workmanship and maintenance. Those elements must be designed and installed under the applicable project requirements.

Acoustic, structural, slip, wind, thermal, UV, VOC and similar results apply only to the product or assembly and conditions identified in the supporting document. Marketing summaries are not a substitute for the complete report.

The customer must not rely on a rating from a different profile, thickness, substrate, cavity, fixing arrangement or installation. No structural load, span or fixing capacity should be assumed without product-specific information and appropriate professional design.

Windows and external glazed doors must be selected for the project’s opening, wind pressure, water penetration, operation, glazing, human-impact and energy requirements. Claims relating to AS 2047 or AS 1288 must be supported for the exact supplied unit and glazing configuration.

The customer’s builder and installer remain responsible for openings, lintels, fixing, packers, flashings, perimeter sealing, drainage, interface with the wall system and installation certification.

Tell us the intended application and requested performance. Obtain the current product data, test reports and installation guide. Have the project professionals confirm suitability and acceptance. Do not order for a regulated performance requirement until the evidence pathway is agreed. Stop work if the delivered product or proposed installation differs from the approved documents.
